Health and herbs

My Story

They taught me that nursing is a vocation, not a profession. My experience started in the Philippines, worked in Saudi Arabia and now residing in USA.

I have seen a lot of sickness affecting people from different walks of life; young, old, rich or poor.

The intention of connecting health and herbs, traditional and contemporary methods of healing would be an endeavor. And making it effective, affordable and fun will be my contribution and responsibility.

My nursing experience

To experience every area of nursing was the goal. My first love was the Emergency room. In the Philippines, we do not have EMS as first responders. We get everything in the ER from medical, surgical, OB GYN, geriatrics, pediatrics….fun! I learned a lot.

Next thing was Community nursing where we vaccinated kids in the mountains. It was a government program where I had to sign a waiver and watch the armed military men leaving us as we cross the border.  For the experience, I went to  Intensive Care and with much curiosity, Private Care nursing.

The best job I ever had was being a vessel nurse where I worked on a ship and get to travel the beautiful islands of  the Philippines. As a nurse, you are a lieutenant, with the privilege of eating in the officers’ mess hall.

One fun job was Industrial Nursing, working in a brewery.  I do not drink beer but it was free, “drink all you can kinda deal”, as long as you return the bottles. Attending promotional venues and bringing my medical kit with nothing but Tylenol and band aids.

Crossing continents to work in Saudi Arabia offered reasons to try more endeavors. I worked in the ICU and orthopedic floor to spice it all up. Stayed there for a couple of years and moved on to Michigan.  A Nursing home petitioned me and  then I settled in a hospital as a Float nurse. I get to enjoy all the floors without any commitments, though in between, became interested with Home Care Nursing.

The most interesting job was being a DIVA ( Difficult Intravenous Access Specialist), where we get to insert (the sexiest needle ever made) IV’s using an ultrasound to help reduce central line related infections.

HOW IT STARTED

It might be funny, but my story started with face creams. In the Philippines, I wash my face with soap and water. That is all I need. When I came to America, I had to use face creams and would change them every month or else my cheeks will turn red.

Then, I got married and husband is into “organics”. I did not quite understand it but after 2 years, he gave me a piece of paper and said, “this is a list of ingredients of your creams”. I saw the word “formaldehyde”. I know in Biology class, we embalm fishes and frogs with it. So, I changed my creams into organic ones.

This stirred up so many questions. Searching for answers, I started reading and understanding the ingredients of the products I use. Then, learning about food from ground up. This gives me a choice if I should continue to use these food and products and get sick or find other alternatives. It did become expensive and overwhelming. And this is where I would like to share with you that it does not have to be expensive or overwhelming. We can make it easy, fun and beneficial for you, your family, friends and the environment.

HEALTH

Health is a continuum. I am fascinated on how the human body adapts and is resilient, on how it heals itself. I believe that it is inherent in every living thing to heal itself. And some do have the gift of healing.

Health is wealth, they say. I do agree because what is the use of your million dollar house when you often sleep in a hospital bed? Or spend all your spare time and money visiting doctors? You can not enjoy life if you are sick. There is no money in healthy people.

HERBS

With herbs, there is a symbiotic relationship between all living things. Like we are connected, by cells; an unspoken language, communicating and working together. Most plants have the same chemical properties from the medicines that you buy from the pharmacy, toothpaste or the beauty and cleaning products you use every single day.  Only difference is, they are natural, has less or no preservatives, not packaged, can not be patented, cheaper and sustainable.
